Do you know how Caroline Beach received it’s name?

“In the early 1930’s the North shoreline of Lake Ida know as “Caroline Beach” cattails made up about half a block out from the current shoreline.”

History of Caroline Beach

1875

In September, 1875 Charles and Anna Engstrom settled on the land that is now known as Caroline Beach. It’s located on Big Horn Road, and grew the property to what it is today.

1905-1927

Caroline was the beneficiary of the land when her parents passed away. She married Gustaf A. Anderson, and pursued life on the family property. When Caroline passed away, her husband Gustaf sold the property to their son, Carl “Ted” Anderson.

1950-1961

Carl “Ted” Anderson resided in the only home on the Northeast end of the lake, known today as the Boehnes cottage. Ted Anderson left all of his lake shore for his heirs. The beneficiaries of his estate purchased and developed the shoreline, naming it in honor of their grandmother Caroline.

1965

The family recipients of the land donated a significant portion to the township to develop a public access on the North end of the lake. Known today as Ted’s Landing.

1966-2019

During this significant time period, Caroline Beach grew into a Lake Ida destination. Visitors from near and far were able to appreciate the vast beauty of this historical landmark.

2020

Here we are today, Chris and Christian Anderson. We are the 5th and 6th generation of Caroline’s family tree, and are continuing to grow her legacy through the land she established. To the families that settle into homes, create traditions, and work to preserve the land in her honor, we are doing the same. Carolina Storage is being built to protect, house, and store the important articles to citizens of surrounding Lake Ida properties.
